Tania Wilson appointed GM Fresh Minds

Tania Wilson has been appointed to the role of General Manager, Fresh Minds.

Ms Wilson, of Te Arawa, Ngāpuhi and Cornish descent, is a clinical psychologist who has spent the last 35 years working in health including senior roles at Waitematā District Health Board, Auckland University Services and local NGO’s.

Leading clinical and operations aspects for Fresh Minds, Ms Wilson will oversee the organisation’s primary mental health and wellbeing services which are managed at three Auckland centres, the school-based health service and psychology in schools programme currently in place at several Auckland secondary schools and the integrated primary mental health and addictions model of care currently being rolled out across ProCare general practices.

With a depth of experience in mental health Ms Wilson is passionate about early intervention and the development and implementation of primary mental health models of care which ensure people can access the right level of support before issues become more severe.

“I am delighted to have been appointed to lead both clinical and operational aspects for the Fresh Minds team and support all of the vital work they do ensuring individuals get the support they need, when they need it most,” says Ms Wilson.

“There are challenging but exciting times ahead and I look forward to supporting my team to find innovative ways to reduce inequity and further develop culturally responsive approaches to reduce disparities in mental health access for Māori and Pacific communities.”

Steve Boomert, CEO of Fresh Minds parent organisation ProCare, said “We are delighted to have Tania on board to provide clinical and operational leadership to the Fresh Minds team. She brings a wealth of experience to the role and this will be invaluable as the service continues to grow.”

With longstanding experience in child and youth mental health Ms Wilson is a strong advocate for recipients of services to have the opportunity to guide the shape of the services given the responsibility to care for them.

She is currently in the final stages of completing doctoral research focusing on the experiences of transgender young people accessing health services.
