Supporting Asian health

We are working to ensure Asian communities receive care that respects cultural values, language needs, and individual experiences — because better access means better outcomes.

Supporting Asian communities

ProCare is committed to meeting the needs of New Zealand’s growing Asian communities by delivering culturally responsive healthcare. Our expertise means that respecting language, traditions, and individual preferences, goes without saying. Partnerships

Since 2023, ProCare has proudly partnered with Asian Family Services (AFS) to improve access to culturally appropriate health and wellbeing support for Asian communities across Auckland and beyond. This collaboration reflects our commitment to equity and inclusion in primary care.

Through this partnership, ProCare practices can connect patients with AFS’s specialist services, including:

  • Mental health and addiction support delivered in multiple Asian languages
  • Community outreach and education to reduce stigma and improve health literacy
  • Navigation and advocacy services to help patients access the care they need.

Smoking cessation support

ProCare offers specialist, culturally responsive support to help Mandarin and Cantonese individuals quit smoking and improve long-term health outcomes.  The service combines counselling, nicotine replacement, and ongoing follow-up to empower people to quit smoking and improve long-term health. Our service includes:

  • Dedicated support for Mandarin and Cantonese-speaking communities
  • Free interpretation for most other Asian languages
  • One-on-one consultations, nicotine replacement therapy, behaviour-change strategies, and intensive follow-up care.

Referrals can be made via Ready Steady Quit (RSQ), e-referrals, or by emailing support@asianhealthhub.co.nz.

Mental health and wellbeing support

Through Fresh Minds we have a strong commitment to being responsive to cultural diversity which includes support for Māori, Pacific and Asian communities. This is also reflected in strong representation of Asian cultures within our leadership team.

Recognising the needs of practices with high numbers of enrolled Asian populations, we have placed bilingual Health Improvement Practitioners and Heath Coaches where possible. This supports integration with the practice team and supports effective engagement with patients through increased cultural understanding and reducing language barriers.

Therapy centres

Within our Therapy centres we engage in continuous learning and development to increase our cultural responsiveness and ability to practice safely with Asian clients  we embrace our relationships with Asian-led organisations. We are also fortunate to have several bilingual clinicians. For other members of our team, we can access interpreter support to ensure every patient receives care in the language they’re most comfortable
