Quality Healthcare
ProCare is Auckland’s largest primary health network. Working in safe and discreet community-based practices or “medical homes,” our 2500 highly skilled family doctors, nurses and practice staff look after the healthcare needs of 800,000 Aucklanders.
We take our promise of "quality general practice" very seriously. Our medical practices are independently operated, but every doctor and nurse - as well as their medical practice - must meet ProCare’s high standards of care and credentialing:
Our doctors
ProCare’s doctors or general practitioners (GPs) must be qualified, vocationally registered specialists in general practice or family medicine, or actively working towards this status. You can rest assured your healthcare is in the hands of skilled, qualified medical professionals.
Our nurses
Practice nurses are highly trained registered nurses specialising in family medicine. More than 200 ProCare nurses are currently participating in an industry-leading, NZ Nursing Council-approved professional recognition and benchmarking programme. Many of our nurses are also recognised as practitioners able to directly care for patients in our new format 'nurse clinics'.
Our practices and clinics
ProCare practices are comfortable, friendly and confidential. We encourage and support all practices to receive a special accreditation for general practices from the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners. This Cornerstone accreditation is a combined quality improvement and quality assurance process.
Clinical and community governance
All ProCare general practices benefit from two semi-independent advisory committees that offer governance on the healthcare we provide and the communities we serve:
- ProCare’s Clinical Governance Committee oversees the provision of safe and optimum healthcare services in the populations we are responsible for.
- The Community Engagement Committee gathers information on the health needs and community aspirations within our enrolled populations, provides advice on public health issues, and offers community advice on the development and implementation of ProCare’s healthcare services programmes.
