New: ProCare Nurse Clinics
If you are a patient of a ProCare practice, you may not always need to see your doctor for all your medical needs. In many cases, quality care may also be available to you through your practice's nurse clinic - another important initiative by your general practice team at your 'medical home'.
Attending an appointment at a nurse clinic overseen by your doctor means you can take advantage of the following benefits:
- • Easier access to health care
- • Less waiting time for an appointment and possibility of longer appointments
- • Access to health education and advice to help you understand your condition better
- • Self-management planning tools
- • Access to preventative care and lifestyle monitoring with a nurse specialist
- • Improved management of long term medical conditions
- • Access to two or more health care professionals with complementary strengths and perspectives.
Nurse clinics are led by highly experienced nurses who have expertise in certain areas of health care, such as chronic disease management, palliative care, or diabetes management. While you may have popped in to see your nurse about a specific health area, your nurse can also give you an all-round check-up and help with other services such as; cervical and cardiovascular screenings, vaccinations, and other tests, just as your doctor would.
Nurse clinics are now available at many ProCare practices.
If it sounds like a nurse clinic may be right for you or a member of your family/whanau, please talk to a member of your ProCare practice.

"Growing evidence demonstrates that people receiving care at nurse clinics demonstrate improved health outcomes for a range of conditions. The evidence supports the establishment of nurse clinics as an effective means of providing health care to people in a range of settings, and as a recommended strategy for addressing your health needs."
