Snug Homes is a joint initiative between ProCare Network Ltd, ASB Community Trust, the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA), Auckland District Health Board and Starship Foundation.
It targets selected homes where energy efficiency improvements will make the greatest difference to the health and quality of life of the occupants.
Who is eligible for Snug homes?
Snug Homes assess applications' homes for suitability with criteria such as:
•The house must have been built before January 2000 and be within the boundaries of the Auckland Region
•The owner/occupier of the home must have a community services card
•The owner/occupier must have a respiratory illness
•Priority will be given to children who are suffering from health problems or the elderly
•If the house does not require ceiling and/or underfloor insulation then no other work will be done.
What does it cost?
If you are eligible there will be no cost to you unless you require the installers to remove stored items or rubbish or need an access to be cut.
What will be installed in your house?
The following energy improvements will be made to your home if required:
•Ceiling insulation and under floor insulation, where accessible
•Ground vapour barrier
•Draught stopping of two external doors
•Hot water cylinder wrap (electric only)
•Pipe lagging.
What else is involved?
In some cases the power may need to be switched off for a short time to make the area safe for our installers. If a hot water cylinder wrap is being fitted then you may need to temporarily remove clothing and linen from your hot water cupboard
What about items found under the house or in the ceiling?
Before any work can be started under the house or in the ceiling you will also have to remove any items that you have stored there so the installation team can complete the work. Also, make sure that the access to these particular areas is clear and safe.

What happens next?
If your application is approved, a representative from Eco Insulation Ltd will contact you to arrange a time to assess the property. It will generally take two or three visits to complete the insulation job.
