
The Royal College of New Zealand General Practice ( RNZCGP) says the findings published in November 2011 issue of
The Journal of Primary Health Care noted improvements in cardio respiratory fitness and strength in Pacific adults over a four-week period, as well as promising trends in blood sugar levels. A larger trial is necessary to explore the longer-term benefits for weight and cardiovascular risk factors.
RNZCGP's media release says that University of Auckland researcher Dr Hans Edge and his colleagues propose that game-based activity such as touch rugby and social football may be more appropriate rather than individual exercise routines - and still provide important health benefits.

How to join in a Pacific group programme run by ProCare
ProCare has
a wide range of community programmes based around group activities, such as our
Big Boys – Big Girls programme in Counties Manukau and zumba classes run through Pacific churches under the Healthy Village Active Zone (HVAZ).
A new series of zumba classes launched in November 2011 at Ruapotaka Marae, and are being held every Weds 10-11am.
