Active Choice Exercise (ACE) can help you or your family member realise the importance of regular exercise and nutrition for their wellbeing with a free two-hour fun and interactive education class per week.
ACE is specially designed to support young adults who are, or will be, living independently in the community due to intellectual, physical or sensory impairments and helps young people develop their skills to live active and healthy lifestyles.
Formed in late 2009 by a group of young adults with disabilities wanting to better their health and fitness, ACE is funded by ProCare, WDHB and other partners, and is now available in Takapuna, Orewa and Waitakere.
Taken by qualified health and fitness staff, class members work with a personal trainer to improve their mobility and fitness levels, and learn to form healthy eating habits with physiotherapists in a fun and interactive team environment.
The program is divided into three sections- Cardiovascular fitness, Strength, Balance and coordination, and Function.
ACE provides the opportunity for young adults to get outdoors and meet people of their own age and similarity and provides the platform to learn to lead healthy and proactive lifestyles. It is also a chance for parents and caregivers to unwind and take a break for two hours a week.
