A new general practice assistant course, designed especially for the primary healthcare sector, offers flexible and cost effective study for those who are currently working in the health industry or returning to the workforce.
HealthEd Trust, a Christchurch-based Independent Training Organisation (ITO), and ProCare Health Limited, Auckland’s largest network of GP and general practice teams, have collaborated on a unique healthcare assistant course with a specific focus on general practice.
The course offers freedom for students to progress at their own pace with self-directed learning tools, in an estimated completion time of just 150 hours.
The NZQA Level 3 accredited programme is available at a low cost of just $200, and for the first 20 participants, ProCare has agreed to fully fund the course fees!
General practice assistants’ are a huge advantage in practices, boosting the clinical output of doctors and nurses by freeing up their time to focus more on patient needs. Tasks of a general practice assistant include administration and supervised clinical work such as, assisting nurses with screening and testing, taking measurements, treatment and room preparation.
ProCare’s General Practice Assistant course is made up of two compulsory components-practical assessments and self-directed learning. There are a total of 14 unit standards two of which are practical, and a competency workbook must also be completed.
The course offers the ability for those already working in health such as practice administrators and receptionists to develop their skills, and there is the option for students to add further qualifications and additional study levels at a later stage.
